Jammu: A cattle trader was killed and another injured in army firing in Kohli area of Gool tehsil in Ramban district of Jammu. Police has filed an FIR amid claims by locals that they heard firing at 11 p.m. last night while army is learnt to have told police that they “came under fire” at around 4 a.m. and in retaliation one person was killed and another injured.
Report said Mohammad Rafiq Gujjar (28) and Shakeel Ahmad (30), both residents of Gool, were allegedly fired upon by soldiers of the 58 Rashtriya Rifles when they were leaving Kohli village, a police official said.
He said while Gujjar died on the spot, Ahmad was injured and has been shifted to district hospital Ramban for treatment. No weapons have been recovered near the spot, sources said.
Meanwhile, locals claimed that they heard gunshots in the area at 11 pm last night.
SSP Ramban Mohan Lal said an FIR has been registered against 58 RR of the army at Dharamkund police station. “Further investigation is on,” he said.
