Srinagar: Private Schools’ Association Jammu and Kashmir held a peaceful protest demonstration at Lal Chowk on Saturday against attempts to scrap Article 35A of the Indian Constitution which accords special rights and privileges to the citizens of Jammu and Kashmir.
The executive members of the Association started the protest march from the Bund and later dispersed peacefully at Press Enclave here.
“Tinkering with the Article 35 A is not acceptable to any Kashmiri. We demand immediate dismissal of all petitions filed in the Supreme Court that challenge Article 35A,” the members told media persons.
They said that irrespective of caste and religion, all Kashmiris will “defend Article 35 A with the last drop of their blood”.
Article 35A was added to the Constitution by a Presidential order. It accords special rights and privileges to the citizens of J and Kashmir and also empowers the state legislature to frame any law without attracting a challenge on the grounds of it violating the Right to Equality of people from other states under the Indian Constitution.
