Tral: There is “outbreak” of deadly foot and mouth disease in cattle in Tral area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district. While farmers are worried, authorities said that there was no need for worry as incidents are “sporadic incidents that will be catered.”
Farmers in Nagapathri Kahlil Tral said the disease was spreading rapidly in the area from last couple of days.
The disease has affected the mouth and foot of animals. The farmers alleged that the Animal Husbandry department has not been able to stop the spread of the disease till now which poses threat to other animals.
“The disease is spreading rapidly here and if it is not controlled on time, animals may die and other areas may also get involved into it,” said a local resident.
“This disease is called Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) and we have already a Surgeon posted in the area at veterinary centre Kahlil. He is already catering to that area and it is being said that at present there are few sporadic cases,” said Dr Mudasir Ahmad, concerned officer from Animal Husbandry department in Tral. The “surgeon will soon approach them if anyone left out,” he said.
