Srinagar: Bodies of three more yatris were recovered on Tuesday evening, taking the death toll of pilgrims killed due to flash floods and landslides caused by cloudbursts near Baltal area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district to five.

Officials said natural calamity struck near Brari Marg and Rail Pathri areas near Baltal en route to Amarnath cave shrine, triggering off landslides and flash floods in the area.

In the incident, two yatris were confirmed dead immediately while bodies of three others were recovered later. Scores of other pilgrims suffered injuries and were immediately evacuated to the nearby hospital.

The other injured were later referred to different hospitals of Srinagar for specialized treatment where the condition of three more pilgrims was stated to be critical.
