Srinagar: A soldier was injured as encounter between government forces and militants started Nazneenpora village of Tral in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

A police officer said that a joint team of army, SOG and CRPF launched a cordon-and-search operation in the village following specific information about the presence of militants.

As the joint team of forces fired some warning shots, official sources said the militants hiding inside the village opened fire which resulted into an encounter, he said.

In the initial exchange of gunfire, a soldier suffered serious injury and was removed to army hospital at Badamibagh.
