Srinagar: Joint Resistance Leadership is looking at measures to deal with the “repressive situation”, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, chairman of Hurriyat Conference and one of three members of the JRL, said on Friday.
Addressing a Friday congregation at historic Jamia Masjid here, Mirwaiz said that every South Kashmir village turned into killing field by government forces.
Terming the prevailing situation in Kashmir as most fragile and worrisome, he urged the international humanitarian organizations and international human rights organizations to use their good offices and play their part in stopping the ongoing bloodshed in Kashmir. He said every day Kashmir is witnesses killings of children and youth, harassment, vandalizing of properties and frequent searches and cordon operations stating that it is high time world community intervenes and urges New Delhi to stop killing Kashmiris and resolve the Kashmir dispute as per the aspirations of its people.
He said that keeping in view the present extremely grave situation in Kashmir, joint resistance leadership recently met and deliberated and was looking at measures to deal with the repressive situation. The JRL has called for press conference at Hotel Ahdoos here tomorrow.
He said that every village of south Kashmir has been turned into a killing field where each day, innocent youth are “massacred by the trigger-happy forces.” He said just two days ago, a class 8th student Umar Kumar was brutally killed by the forces and dozens of others were inflicted grave injuries when bullets and pellets pava shells rained in Shopian. He said “target killings” of Kashmiri youth has become a routine affair of forces and today, Kashmir’s fourth generation was getting consumed by the perpetual conflict. He said world community has a moral responsibility to build pressure on New Delhi to stop this “repression” and resolve the Kashmir dispute as per the promises made to the people at UN.
Mirwaiz said as repression by government of India grows through its forces so does the anger of people against New Delhi and their determination to cut through the yoke of occupation. He said by now New Delhi should realize how deep the sentiment runs and the failure of its policy of use of extreme force and repression as a policy to suppress that sentiment. Mirwaiz said New Delhi will have to engage with the sentiment at some point and statesmanship and democratic principles to which GOI claims to adhere demand that the sooner it is done the better for all. It’s the only way to ensure peace in Kashmir and in the region, he added.
