Srinagar: The historic 86-km-long Mughal road reopened for one-way traffic on Wednesday after remaining closed for two days due to fresh snowfall, while the national highway, connecting Ladakh region with Kashmir and 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu highway are through.
Traffic on the Mughal road, linking Shopian in south Kashmir with Rajouri and Poonch through Bafliaz, was resumed following clearance of snow and improvement in the weather, a traffic police official said.
There was one to one-and-half feet fresh snowfall accumulated on the road, particularly at Pir-ki-Gali besides shooting stones at some places, he said, adding that the district administration from both sides immediately put into service sophisticated machines and cleared the snow and landslides.
In fact, the road was put through last evening, he said, adding that all the vehicles which had left Srinagar and other parts of the valley early yesterday were stopped at Shopian following slipper road conditions.
Later, the vehicles were allowed to move towards their respective destinations following improvement in weather and road become safe for journey.
