The decision to keep educational institutions closed was taken, said officials, as a precautionary measure to avoid student protests in the campuses.

“Primary and high schools have been ordered  to remain open on Monday,” officials said.

Srinagar district administration officials said on Sunday that class work would remain suspended at all the colleges falling in the jurisdiction of district Srinagar on Monday.

The decision has been taken as a precautionary measure to prevent student protests in the campuses, said an official.

Authorities had ordered closing of educational institutions after students protested in the campus of respective schools against the recent killings in South Kashmir. One civilian died later in central Kashmirs Ganderbal district after grievously injured in police action.

Students hit roads and city center Lal chowk was filled with tear gas on thursday after boys and girls came marching raising slogans against India and pro freedom as well. Girl students pelted stones on policemen.

Class work remains suspended in all higher secondary schools and colleges in Sopore division of Baramulla district. “Rest of the educational institutions will remain functional in the district,” said an official.

The district administration Kupwara has decided to suspend class work in Government Degree College Handwara “as a precautionary measure.”

All schools and colleges in Pulwama town will also remain closed tomorrow. “But educational institutions in rest of the areas of the district will remain open,” said the Deputy Commissioner.
