Srinagar: Rains lashed Kashmir Valley even as traffic was affected briefly on Srinagar-Jammu highway due to shooting stones and landslides at Panthal in Ramban district on Sunday.
The Meteorological department here has forecast widespread rainfall in Kashmir over the next 48 hours.
“Many areas of Kashmir Valley, including the summer capital Srinagar, were lashed by rains since early morning,” an official of the MET department said.
An official of the MeT office told INS that Srinagar received a rainfall 7.4mm from 0830 hours to 1730 hours while Qazigund, Kokernag and Pahalgam in south Kashmir received 7.8mm, 9.4 and 9.6mm downpour respectively for the same time during the day.
Kupwara district in north Kashmir received the rainfall of 6.8 mm while ski resort of Gulmarg has rainfall of 7.6mm during the day.
Meanwhile MeT office has predicted more rain fall, snow and thundershower in next 48 hours.
“Fairly widespread to widespread rain / snow / thundershower will occur over the state in next two days,” the official said.
Meanwhile, traffic on Srinagar-Jammu, the only surface link connecting Kashmir Valley with rest of the world, was affected due to shooting stones and landslides at Panthal. The road was cleared after nearly an hour and traffic restored, official sources said.
