Sat, March 31
Kupwara: Government has issued an advisory to farmers here asking them to cultivat alternate, draught resistant and less water consuming cops instead of paddy this year.
An advisory  issued from the office of deputy commissioners  kupwara said that executive engineer irrigation and flood control division kupwara has provided inputs regarding scarcity of water that might prevail throughout the agriculture season 2018.
“Whereas it’s know fact that winter 2017-2018 was almost dry and least snow was observed in the hilly areas,”read the advisory.
Whereas, in district kupwara most of the areas depend on ponds for irrigation. The ponds have dried due to the lack of snowfall/Rainfall, it says.
The advisory says that it has been felt that during the current year irrigation of paddy crop crop might be difficult due to the lack of snowfall/Rainfall.
“In such circumstances it has been deemed proper to inform all the farmers/zamindars that they may cultivate alternate/draught resistant/ less water consuming cops instead of paddy during the current agricultural season, to avoid loss in the yield of crops due to scarcity of water,” advisory says.
