Srinagar: The youth whose body was found in Pulwama district of south Kashmir early Sunday morning was possibly strangulated after torture, police said.
Body of 24 –year-old youth was found on Ratnipora road in Pulwama district and was later identified as Mohammad Shafi Sofi son Ghulam Hyder of Somboora.
The Sofi’s body was taken in SDH Pampore for autopsy to be conducted by a team of doctors in presence of executive magistrate, a police spokesman said.
He said that initial reports suggest that Sofi, who was working as salesman in the business unit of Shah Electronic Shop at Srinagar, was tortured. “There are multiple deep cut wounds on his legs and other body parts. There was a rope around his neck which indicates the possibility of strangulation besides torture,” the spokesman said, adding, “No bullet injury found on body.” Police has registered a case in Police Station Pulwama and has taken up the investigation, the spokesman added.
