Kupwara: “Abdul haq Khan ( minister in ruling PDP-BJP  alliance) should remember the day when he roamed door to door for votes,” residents of Dardpora village in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district are up in arms against the administration.

Protesting residents blocked the road not allowing vehicular traffic to pass. They demanded that CM Mehbooba Mufti and Abdul haq Khan fulfill their promises they had made during the election campaign.

Dardpora, Lolab is the native village of Abdul haq Khan, minister in PDP-BJP led government.

“You people will be given top most preference and a means of earning will start by constructing  Dardpora-bandipora road,” locals recall Mehbooba Mufti as saying during the campaign asking for votes.

Protesting villagers claim that Haq Khan on the same day had promised to issue us “residents of backward area (RBA)”.  “You deserve RBA, the day I’ll hold charge, first I’ll get this (Backward status) job done,” locals quote Khan of saying.

“The reality is that there is no proper road connectivity, not a single link road has been magdamized so far in the area. The narrow road from  Dardpora to kupwara is accidental prone. Transformer is on road side, only 2 feet high from road. We have LT lines connected to our roof tops because unavailability of iron poles in the area. Walnut trees, popular trees have been used instead of electric poles which poses life threat to people and the only  health care building in the area is damaged,” locals rued ‘cheating by political parties to gather votes’.

“Khan should not dare come to us when his power is over, because that time we won’t allow him to enter Dardpora,” angry residents told INS.
