Sopore: Residents of Behrampora area of Rafiabad in north Kashmir’s Sopore belt have complained that they are facing immense hardships due to unscheduled power cuts for more than a month.
Scores of people including women on Friday blocked the Watergam-Sopore road and shouted slogans against the Power Development Department (PDD), demanding adequate electricity in the area.
“Due to unscheduled power cuts, our children are the worst hit as it affects their education,” they said. “Our children are unable to study from evenings.”
Mohammad Younis, a local resident, told INS that the electricity is playing hide and seek since past month. “We have suffered immensely,” he said.
Meanwhile, authorities at PDD told INS the residents “are facing hardships due to overload”.
“People go on extra usage which affects the scheduled electricity in the area,” a senior PDD official said.
