Sopore: Glorious tributes were paid on Thursday to Ghulam Mohammad Bulla, a prominent People’s League leader who is known to have led a strong protest against the 1975 Indira-Abdullah accord, here at martyrs’ graveyard Sopore.
Dozens of pro-freedom activists participated in the fateha prayers and hailed the contribution of Bulla to the movement.
“Ghulam Mohammed Bulla sacrificed his life as a youth for the freedom of Kashmir,” the participants remarked on the occasion.
He was arrested on 11 February 1975 for leading protests against the Indira- Abdullah accord. He is believed to have succumbed to the torture injuries in Srinagar Central Jail on the intervening night of February 14 and 15, 1975.
“Ghulam Mohammad Bulla was arrested by Sopore police while he was protesting against the Abdullah-Indira accord and was brutally beaten. He was man of his word and was never ready to compromise on the right to self-determination. We will fight till the freedom struggle reaches its logical conclusion,” Bulla’s close friend Ghulam Qadir Rah of Sopore, who is also the general secretary of People’s League, told INS.
