Union Secy DW&S also meets Vohra, call for need to improve sanitation, cleanness
Jammu: Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday urged government of India’s Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation to enhance funds allocations to the Jammu and Kashmir owing to less precipitation during current winter.
The request was made by the chief minister in her meeting with the Union Secretary Drinking Water and Sanitation, Parameswaran Iyer, who is on a visit to winter capital and called on her here today.
Iyer briefed the Chief Minister about the schemes and allocations of his Ministry about the State.
“The Chief Minister impressed upon Iyer to enhance the funds allocations to the State owing to less precipitation during current winter which may result into more demands of drinking water and irrigation facilities in the State,” an official spokesman said here .
Iyer also called on Governor N.N. Vohra, Chairman Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, at the Raj Bhavan here.
“Iyer apprised Governor about J&K’s performance under “Swachh Bharat Mission”, the Prime Minister’s flagship Scheme, and the urgent need to improve the sanitation and cleanliness through effective solid and liquid waste management.”
Governor discussed with Iyer the ongoing and the planned projects relating to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine which has been declared as one of the ten Swachh Iconic Places (SIP) under Phase 1 of the Swachh Bharat Mission, for improving cleanliness, waste collection and disposal, and accessibility facilities at Katra and various sanitation infrastructure and facilities on the way to the Shrine. Iyer assured of all required support to the Shrine Board under SIP, the official spokesman added.
