Srinagar: Clashes erupted in Qazigund area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district after rumours spread that the militants killed in Karan Nagar gunfight were locals.
Two militants were killed on Tuesday in a 30-hour-long gunfight at Karan Nagar area of Srinagar.
The identity of the militants is still being established, police said.
However, sources told both the slain militants are locals and identified them as Shakoor Bhai of Qazigund and Idrees of Arwani, Anantnag.
Local sources said that soon after the rumours spread, clashes erupted in Sopat area of Qazigund.
Heavy deployment of forces was also witnessed there when the report was filed.
