Police and paramilitary CRPF placed barricades in on Kupwara roads to enforce restrictions on Sunday–Tassaduq Hussain

Srinagar: Amid restrictions, a shutdown is being observed in Kashmir Valley on Sunday to commemorate 34th death anniversary of pro-independence leader Muhammad Maqbool Bhat who was hanged on 11 February 1984 in Tihar jail in New Delhi and buried within its premises.
Restrictions have been imposed on the movement of people in and around the native place of slain leader in Trehgam beside downtown areas of this summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir. In Kupwara, restrictions have been imposed at Kupwara, Trehgam and Kralpora.
Almost all the shops and business establishments are shut while public transport is mostly off the roads. However, skeletal movement of private transport is being witnessed in uptown areas of the City. Large contingents of police and CRPF personnel have been deployed to thwart any protests.
Joint Resistance Leadership comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik have called for the strike. The trio have been placed under detention to prevent their participation. While Geelani and Mirwaiz are under house arrest, Malik has been arrested and lodged in central jail. Authorities have also suspended train service across the Valley.
