Sopore: Residents of Sheer colony in this north Kashmir’s Baramulla district alleged that they are being supplied contaminated water in their houses for five years posing threat to their lives.
Locals said that 27000 litre water tank was installed fifteen years ago in the area. Soon after it was functional, the water tank developed some snag which was never restored.
“We residents are waiting to get the water tank clean as the leakage in the tank has mixed water with other dirty things,” said a local resident, adding, “The tank has now become a site of mud and weeds.”
Local women claimed that they have to walk miles to get single bucket of water. “Department is not serious to sort out this long pending issue and are adding woes to our sufferings,” one of the women rued, adding, “The contaminated water is causing multiple disease in the meantime.”
Meanwhile, a group of residents alleged that PHE department has failed to restore the leakage and maintain hygiene in the water tanker despite repeated approaches.
When INS tried to contact PHE department, the concerned official wasn’t available for his version.
