Srinagar: Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) on Saturday called for a shutdown across the Valley on Sunday against the killings of civilians in army firing in Ganaowpora area of Shopian district in south Kashmir.
The leadership comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik appealed people to observe a complete shutdown against the killings.
Earlier, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Ahmad Khan ordered a magisterial inquiry into the killing of two civilians and injuries to several others allegedly by the army.
Talking to INS, the Divisional Commissioner said that Deputy Commissioner Shopian has been asked to carry the inquiry. “The officer has been asked to complete the inquiry within 20 days,” he said.
Two among the three critically civilians injured in firing by army in Shopian succumbed to their sounds, official source said.
Several civilians were injured, three of them seriously, when army opened fire in Ganowpora area of Shopian district on Saturday afternoon. source said that one among the injured namely Rayees Wagay was referred to SKIMS Soura in critical conditions.
The deceased have been identified as Javid Bhat and Sohul Bhat.
Sources said that army forces came under stone pelting and fired few round, leading to the casualties.
