Srinagar: Two militants have been killed in the ongoing encounter in Kokernag area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Tuesday.

Official sources told INS two militants have been killed so far in the operation which is still underway.

The gunfight started after forces launched a cordon-and-search operation following information about the presence of some militants in Larnoo forests of Kokernag area.

The slain militants have been identified as Mohammad Furqan Wani, son of Ghulam Mohd Wani resident of Wangund, Khudwani and Mohammad Farnham Wani son of Ghulam Mohidin Wani resident of Wangund Kaimuh of the district.

Clashes between people and forces broke soon after the news of encounter spread.

Meanwhile, internet services were suspended in Anantnag and Kulgam districts of south Kashmir.
