2 held with 50 lakh demonetized currency: Police

Srinagar: Police on Sunday arrested two persons and claimed recovered demonetized currency of 50 lakhs from their possession.
A police party of from Baghiyas led by the in-charge Police Post Sub-inspector Ajaz Ahmad apprehended two persons during a surprise naka checking near Batboni Baghiyas and recovered demonetized currency of Rs 50 lakhs from their possession.
The duo has been identified as Nazir Ahmad Rather son of Mohammad Ramzan Rather of Syedpora Rafiabad and Akeel Ahmad Khan son of Ali Mohammad Khan of Kanpur U.P at present Baramulla.
Accordingly, cognizance was taken under the specified bank notes (cessation of liabilities) Act, 2017 and further investigation was taken up, a police spokesman said. “These accused persons will be presented before the competent Court for judicial determination.”
