KVJA condemns ‘assault’ on video, photo journalists by SOG in Sopore

Srinagar: Kashmir Video Journalist Association on Saturday condemned the alleged “manhandling” of video as well as photo journalists by SOG personnel of JKP near IED blast site in Sopore.
“Not only did the SOG personnel of Sopore component manhandle but also hurled abuses and threatened the video journalists. They snatched equipments and tried to break them,” the KVJA said in a statement issued here.
“What was more shocking was that this happened in front of senior officers of the police who stood as mute spectators and In-fact one of them joined in to further humiliate the press,” the KVJA said.
In spite of the “grave provocation”, it said, the media men didn’t lose their cool and .
“Kashmir video journalist association appeal DGP Dr S P Vaid and ADGP Muneer Ahmed Khan to look into it punish the ‘goonda policemen’. Timely action would surely help in ensuring that such shameful incidents don’t happen again,” the KVJA said after an emergency meeting. The KVJA also decided to office bearers has decided to meet the ADGP Kashmir and lodge a formal complaint.
