Terms tabling of Bill in Indian Parliament on Triple Talaq ‘unjustified, interference with religion’

Srinagar: Kashmir High Court Bar Association on Monday welcomed joint statement issued by first Six Nation Speakers Conference, calling for settlement of Kashmir issue according to United Nations Security Council Resolutions.
The conference was held at Islamabad on 23-24 of December and it underlined that for a durable peace in South Asia, it was incumbent, both for India and Pakistan, to settle the long pending ‘dispute’ in accordance with the United Nations Security Council Resolutions, which guarantee the right of self-determination to the people of Kashmir.
The Bar Association also appreciated the stand taken by the speakers and representatives from Russian, China, Iran, Turkey, Afghanistan and Pakistan, in the joint statement by reiterating their earlier stand on the issue of Palestine and in rejecting the Donald Trump’s decision to shift US Embassy in Tel-Aviv to Jerusalem, as unacceptable.
“(The US stand) is contrary to UNSC Resolution of 1980 and was going to alter the position obtaining in the Middle East, which was going to give rise to further violence in the region.”
The Bar Association also described the tabling of Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill 2017, before the Indian Parliament in the next week absolutely “unjustified” and termed it as an interference with the religious affairs and beliefs of the Muslims and also an affront to the Muslim Personal Law, “because the bill criminalizes the practice of instant divorce and makes the practice of “Triple Talaq, a punishable offence, which is absolutely against Shariah.”
The Bar Association also condemns the thrashing of a youth, by the “Army personnel” at Khrew, Pampore, who while driving a vehicle for taking his mother to hospital, was stopped and was given a thrashing without any rhyme or reason. “When his uncle tried to intervene, he too was beaten ruthlessly by the ruthless forces.”
