Govt Orders Inquiry into PMGSY Road Works in Poonch; Engineers Under Scrutiny

Srinagar: “I assure that the department will compensate if God forbid any untoward incident due to landslide takes place in the area,” said Assistant Executive Engineer, PMGSY Pulwama, Harbans Singh on Monday when asked by INS as to why the protection bunds are not constructed in the Nokdi-Bhatnoor village of Tral which faces constant threat of frequent landslides.
The locals of Nokdi-Bhatnoor village of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district accuse PMGSY department for failing to construct the protection bund on the sides of the newly constructed road in the area.
Singh said the bund cannot be constructed till March next year as the area is on top of the hill where the loaded vehicles can’t reach due to muddy ways.
The locals told INS despite several requests; the concerned department has failed to construct the bund. “We are living under constant threat due to landslides triggering during frequent rains. Our houses will be washed away anytime if the protection bunds are not constructed soon,” Abdul Rashid Sheikh Gujjar said.
The villagers said the contractor is visiting there after months; leaving people in the area suffer immense hardships.
They requested authorities to look into the matter at the earliest so their sufferings are mitigated very soon.
