Srinagar: Hundreds of vehicles were stranded on Srinagar-Jammu highway for several hours due to a traffic jam on Saturday.
While the commuters alleged mismanagement on part of the men in blue, the traffic police blamed the jam to an accident inside Nasri tunnel.
“With the announcement of one way traffic, we left from Jammu to Srinagar early morning and it turned out to appalling. There were no traffic personnel to man the traffic, leading to massive gridlock,” Nazir Ahmad, a resident of Hazratbal Srinagar, who along with the family took travel on the strategic highway, told INS over phone.
Massive traffic jams were seen all along the thoroughfare, the only roadway connecting Kashmir Valley with rest of the world.
IGP Traffic highway, Manjit Singh told INS that traffic movement was hampered due to an accident inside the tunnel. “Traffic has been restored and efforts are underway to smooth it all along the highway,” he said.
