Handwara: Three militants and a woman were killed during a gunfight that broke out between govt forces and militants at Younsu area on Sopore-Kupwara highway last night.

A joint team of forces cordoned off the Younsu area of Handwara following specific information about the hiding of some militants inside a house at around 12:30am.

Five members of the family got trapped inside the house, one member believed to be daughter in law of the house owner tried to escape during which she sustained serious bullet wounds and subsequently died due to grave injuries.

The officer, however, said that the woman died in cross fire during the operation.

Earlier, the officer said that 3 militants have been killed in the gunfight and the bodies along with as many rifles were recovered and there identity are being ascertained. DGP S P VAID confirmed the killing of three foreign militants in a tweet.
