Ganderbal: Residents of Manigam, Wayel, Gutlibagh of Ganderbal District Tuesday blocked Sgr-Leh at Manigam byepass, against un-scheduled power cuts by Power Development department (PDD) in these areas.

According to protesters the unscheduled power cuts have effected not only daily household chores, and business as well.

“The power cuts have risen in number and its for only few hours that we are provided electricity during past one month,” protesters told INS.

Raising slogans against the PDD, residents alleged that they only see employees of the department when they have to deliver electricity bills.

“We are regular tax payers and even after paying our bills on time, why are we not provided electricty,” angry protesters said, refusing to let the traffic ply on the highway.

The residents of Manigam, Wayel, and Gutlibagh complained that their wards are suffering due to non availability of electricity as they are preparing for various exams however with ‘no electricity they are forced to prepare under lanterns’.

“We have been left with no other option but to use lanterns as all the other options like inverters etc are of no use, as their is no electricity that would charge the batteries, thus even effecting bussiness in the area,” they said.

Additional SP Ganderbal Fayaz Hussain reached the spot along with Tehsildar Lar and SHO lar and pacified the protesters.

“They have assured us that they will raise the issue with the concerned officials and there problem will be redressed,” protesters quoting officials said.

protesters later dispersed peacefully and traffic was resumed on the highway.
