Srinagar, Oct 29: Jammu and Kashmir Civil Society Forum (JKCSF) Chairman Abdul Qayoom Wani has welcomed the cabinet expansion, describing it as a positive step towards decentralising governance and ensuring the smooth and effective functioning of the administration.
Wani urged the newly inducted ministers to rise above constituency-centric politics and work for the welfare of people across Jammu and Kashmir without discrimination.
He said that while elected representatives, as MLAs, are responsible for addressing the concerns of their respective constituencies, their responsibilities as ministers extend to the entire Jammu and Kashmir.
“As MLAs, they must work and worry for their constituencies, but as ministers, they must work and worry for all,” he said.
Wani emphasised that accountability, transparency and regular performance reviews at all levels are essential for building a responsive, efficient and people-centric administration.
He said people have high expectations from Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who has received a significant public mandate, and urged the government to fulfil public aspirations and honour commitments made in its election manifesto despite challenging circumstances.
He also called for expediting the restoration of statehood and constitutional guarantees in the larger interest of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and the country.
Congratulating the newly inducted ministers, Wani expressed hope that they would discharge their responsibilities with dedication, zeal and commitment while ensuring greater accountability and transparency in their respective departments.
He said JKCSF would support every constructive initiative undertaken by the government for the welfare and development of the people.
Wani further stressed that social reformation, eradication of drug abuse and prevention of crime must be treated as a collective responsibility of the government, civil society and the public. He called for coordinated efforts to build a drug-free, crime-free and socially responsible society.
He reaffirmed that JKCSF would continue to raise public issues and advocate the legitimate concerns and aspirations of the people under all circumstances.
