Speaking at the closing ceremony of the Alfa Hockey Inter-School Tournament 2026 at the Synthetic Hockey Astro Turf, Polo Ground Srinagar, Sinha described the event as an important platform for recognising and promoting promising players.

He said sporting talent can flourish only when young players are provided opportunities, facilities and the right platform to showcase their abilities, adding that the tournament has evolved into a key avenue for talent identification and growth.

“Many outstanding players come from ordinary backgrounds, but without opportunities and proper support, talent cannot progress. This tournament is helping identify such talent and enabling young sportspersons to move ahead,” he said.

The Lieutenant Governor noted that the performances during the tournament reflected the immense sporting potential among the youth of the Union Territory.

Praising the youth, Sinha said they have consistently demonstrated determination and the ability to achieve their goals through sustained effort.

He emphasised that dedication and commitment are essential for success and urged players to continue striving for excellence while making the best use of guidance from their coaches.

“Your coaches understand your strengths and shortcomings. There is always scope for improvement. Stay committed to learning and keep working on your game,” he said.

Sinha also advised young athletes to draw inspiration from successful players and learn from their achievements.

Highlighting the larger role of sports, he said youth development is closely linked to nation-building, with sports providing opportunities for growth and positive contribution to society.

Encouraging greater participation, he expressed hope that Jammu and Kashmir will produce a strong generation of hockey players in the future.

“Hockey can become a major avenue for our youth. I am confident that more players will emerge from Jammu and Kashmir, and this tournament will mark the beginning of a new journey for the sport in the Union Territory,” he added. (KNO)
