Jammu, May 12: Jammu and Kashmir clinched the overall trophy in the two-day 4th Golden Bharat Karate Cup organized by All India Karate Federation (AIKF) and International Karate Federation India at Talkatora Indoor Stadium.
The J&K contingent secured a total of 13 medals, including two gold and six silver medals in various weight and age categories of the twin events of Kata and Kumite.
Kartik Verma won gold in Kumite and bronze in Kata in the 24 kg weight category. Other medal winners included Sejal in 48 kg category who secured silver and bronze medals, Veshnavi in 28 kg category who won bronze, and Maqsood Hussain, a J&K Police player, who claimed silver and bronze medals in the 84 kg category.
Trisha Malgotra bagged two silver and one bronze medal, while Arnav Yadav and Pranav secured silver and bronze medals each.
J&K also won gold in the newly introduced 55-plus age category Master Kata event, which was introduced for the first time in the 4th Golden Bharat Cup. Sanjeev Dewan from Jammu and Kashmir became the first-ever gold medal winner in this category.
The team was accompanied by Ram Lal of Dilkhush Knight Club Institute Nagrota (Usman Darbar Army Cantt).
Among other honours, Bidhi Kumar Birdi, Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Zone, attended the event as Guest of Honour, while the J&K Police Player Award was presented to Maqsood Hussain of JKP.
A total of 18 States and Union Territories along with affiliated clubs from across the country participated in the championship.
