Anantnag, March 10: Bijbehara Police on Tuesday apprehended five alleged drug peddlers in separate incidents in the Bijbehara area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district and recovered a significant quantity of contraband substances from their possession.
According to police officials, two accused identified as Javid Ahmad Parray, son of Mohammad Maqbool Parray, resident of Jablipora Bijbehara, and Jawahar Ahmad Sofi, son of Ghulam Mohi-Ud-Din Sofi, also a resident of Jablipora Bijbehara, were arrested during a naka checking operation. During their search, police recovered 240 grams of charas powder-like substance from their possession. In this regard, FIR No. 54/2026 under Sections 8/20 and 29 of the NDPS Act.
In another incident, a load carrier auto bearing registration number JK13F-3949 was intercepted for checking. The vehicle was being driven by Suhail Mushtaq Mir, son of Mushtaq Ahmad Mir, resident of Umar Colony Jahangir Parigam, Pulwama. During checking, police recovered 10.340 kilograms of poppy straw-like substance from the vehicle. Accordingly, FIR No. 55/2026 under Sections 8/15 and 29 of the NDPS Act
Similarly, during naka checking, police intercepted a Maruti Alto bearing registration number JK01P-4799 driven by Suhail Ahmad Bhat, son of Nazir Ahmad Bhat, resident of Baliyar, Marhama, Bijbehara. Upon search, police recovered approximately 4.90 kilograms of ganja-like substance from the vehicle. In this regard, FIR No. 56/2026 under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act
In another case, police arrested Abdul Rashid Bhat, son of Abdul Razak Bhat, resident of Bhatpora Marhama, and recovered 3.74 kilograms of charas powder-like substance from his possession. Accordingly, FIR No. 57/2026 under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Bijbehara.
Police have initiated further investigation in all the cases.
