Srinagar: In a first, police on Monday registered a case against a woman after she alleged that her braid was chopped off for the third consecutive time within a fortnight at her residence in Batamaloo here.
As the woman’s claim triggered fresh clashes in Batamaloo, police said that it has also named some “miscreants” in the FIR registered against “relevant sections” of law.
“A lady undergoing psychiatric treatment alleges braid chopping for 3rd time in a fortnight. Police registers FIR against her and other miscreants for resorting to stone pelting,” a police official said.
He said that at 3p.m., the woman alleged that her hair has been chopped inside her house in Banpora area of the Batmaloo suburb.
The official said last time she went to the SMHS Hospital where the doctors advised her to consult psychiatric specialist but instead of consulting the doctor she left the hospital. “She and her husband refused to depose or cooperate with the investigating agency,” he said. .
On Monday, the police said, she along with some miscreants blocked the Mominabad road and resorted to stone pelting stones on the civil vehicles. Later they were dispersed by the police.
“She is a clear case of hysteria and suffers from psychiatric disorder which requires medical attention. The woman is also have some familial issues,” the official said.
He said a case (FIR 173/2017) under relevant sections of law registered against the woman and persons who indulged in stone pelting and disturbing peace and tranquillity of the area, the official added.
Meanwhile, a police said it arrested four “miscreants involved in inciting law and order problem” over braid chopping.
“These miscreants are from Soura, Lal Bazar and Zakura areas,” the police said here.
In the garb of braid chopping “chaos’, the police said, these “trouble mongers”, incited “mob” and were also involved in creating disturbances in the area.
Case FIR No 86/2017 under sections 147,148,149,336,307,427 RPC was registered against them at Police Station Soura, the police said. “On their disclosure, more trouble mongers have been identified and they will be shortly arrested,” the police said, and requested general public not to pay heed to rumours. “Strict action will be taken against rumour mongers and trouble mongers,” police warned.
