Jammu, July 09: As part of ongoing efforts to ensure the smooth and secure conduct of Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2025, Shri Shiv Kumar Sharma, IPS, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Jammu-Samba-Kathua (JSK) Range, conducted a comprehensive review of security arrangements across the districts of Jammu, Samba, and Kathua.
During his visits, DIG Shiv Kumar Sharma inspected key locations including lodgement centres and langar sites, emphasizing the need for close coordination among all stakeholders to guarantee the safety and well-being of the pilgrims.
He underlined the importance of meticulous planning and execution of security measures to counter any potential threats.
Key highlights of the review include:
Site Inspections: The DIG personally visited important pilgrim locations such as the Base Camp at Bhagwati Nagar (Jammu), various lodgement centres, and langar sites across the three districts. He also inaugurated langars at Mahajan Sabha Shalamar (Jammu), Nonath Ashram and Chichi Mata Ghagwal (Samba), and Tyagi Baba Langar Mela Morh and Moga Langar in Rajbagh (Kathua).
Security Directives: Officers were instructed to place special focus on pilgrim routes, lodgement centres, and base camps. DIG Sharma stressed the implementation of “Operation Third Eye”—a multi-stakeholder surveillance initiative—for enhanced security coverage.
Enhanced Vigilance: All unit officers were directed to maintain heightened alertness, especially those deployed along the National Highway (NHW). Subordinate officers were briefed to ensure round-the-clock vigilance at all designated points.
4. **Interaction with Pilgrims**: DIG Sharma interacted with Yatris and advised those travelling in private vehicles to adhere to police instructions and preferably travel in official convoys for a safer journey.
Critical Point Checks: As part of his review, the DIG inspected several key security points including enroute nakas, joint checkpoints, QRTs, ROPs, infiltration-prone areas, and vulnerable nullahs (e.g., Tarnah, Ujh, Shaap, Pandori, Bein, Babbar, Pangdor), as well as border areas in Koulpur, Phulpur, and Mawa. He also met with Village Defence Group (VDG) members, sensitizing them about their responsibilities and encouraging proactive vigilance.
Night Security and Naka Enhancement: Officers were instructed to bolster naka deployment in border and urban areas, especially during night and early morning hours. They were also directed to identify additional strategic locations for setting up new checkpoints.
Inter-Agency Coordination: DIG Sharma emphasized the importance of real-time coordination with intelligence agencies, including the Army, paramilitary forces, and other security bodies. Officers were tasked with establishing more joint nakas and sharing intelligence inputs promptly.
Mock Drills and Operational Readiness: Officers were directed to conduct regular mock drills, ensure proper vehicle and vendor checks, and take immediate action against any suspicious activity.
DIG JSK Range reiterated that a high level of vigilance must be maintained throughout the Yatra period, and all officers must remain proactive in their approach to ensure the pilgrimage remains safe, peaceful, and incident-free.
