2 dead, 3 injured in accident near Navyug Tunnel at Qazigund

Srinagar, Apr 2: Three people injured in a road accident near the Navyug Tunnel on the Jammu-Srinagar highway last evening succumbed to their injuries, an officials said here on Wednesday.

Around 8:40 pm Tuesday, a Hector vehicle traveling from Jammu to Srinagar lost control near the Navyug Tunnel due to overspeeding and collided with a divider and a police barrier, they said.

The crash left five people including a Special Police Officer (SPO) injured.

All Injured were shifted to Emergency Hospital Qazigund for treatment, where from they were shifted to Government Medical College Anantnag for further treatment.

“One injured person Zubair Ahmad Wani of Heerpora Shopian was declared dead on his arrival. A second person identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Dalal, a resident of Shopian succumbed to his injuries during the night,” officials said.

Police registered a case under section 281,125(a), 324(4) BNS in Police Station Qazigund and took up the investigation.

Six days ago, an accident took place inside the Navyug Tunnel in which 17 people, including the driver, were injured after an SRTC bus overturned.
