Srinagar, Nov 8: Congress legislator from North Kashmir’s Bandipora assembly segment Nizamuddin Bhat while speaking on motion of thanks to LG’s address in the Legislative Assembly urged the Speaker to review and simplify the verification process for government employees.

Bhat highlighted the plight of youth being denied government employment due to the alleged crimes of distant relatives, citing the case of an orphan girl, Sobiya Mushtaq, who was denied a job twice.

Bhat as per KNT also cited the example of the brother of an incarcerated journalist Sajad Gul, who was denied verification after being selected on merit in a government department.

Bhat emphasized the need for a more nuanced approach to verification, one that doesn’t unfairly penalize individuals for the actions of others.

He appealed to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to intervene and address this issue. “The current verification process has been a source of frustration and it is overly stringent and discriminatory,” Bhat said.
