Srinagar, Aug 29: An earthquake measuring 5.7 on Richter scale jolted Kashmir today morning.

As per the officials in the Meteorological department Srinagar, an earthquake measuring 5.7 on Richter scale jolted Kashmir at 11:26 am. Its epicentre was traced in Afghanistan. In the past fortnight, Kashmir has witnessed at least over a dozen tremors. Baramulla district of north Kashmir have recorded maximum tremors.

On October 6, 2006, a massive earth quake struck Kashmir that left behind a huge trail of death and destruction. Baramulla district bore the brunt as it recorded massive damage to property. Kashmir falls in highly sensitive seismic zone and as per experts entire Valley is prone to earthquakes. (NVI)
