Srinagar, Jan 24: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday said to have arrested three drug peddlers in Budgam, Baramulla & Ganderbal and recovered psychotropic, contraband substances from their possession.

In Budgam, a police party of Police Post Narbal during routine naka checking at Sunderabad Narbal intercepted a suspicious person who upon seeing police party tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully, a police spokesman said.

He has been identified as Jehangir Ahmad Sheikh son of Ab Rashid Sheikh resident of Sozieth Goripora. During search, semi grinded charas like substance weighing about 940gms and 80 tablets of SpasmoProxyvon were recovered from his possession, police said.

In Baramulla, a police party of Police Station Uri headed by SHO PS Uri at a checkpoint established at Dani Syedan Uri, intercepted a person identified as Noor Hussain Shah son of Mehboob Shah resident of Choolan Kalsan Uri. During search, 9.46 Kgs of contraband Cannabis Powder like substance was recovered from his possession, police said.

In Ganderbal, Police Station Ganderbal received information through reliable sources that one person namely Sajad Ahmad Sofi son of Ghulam Hassan Sofi resident of Saloora Ganderbal is carrying contraband substance in his truck bearing registration No. JK03H-8638, police said.

Acting Swiftly, a special police team was constituted under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Ganderbal, led by SHO PS Ganderbal intercepted the said truck near new Bus Stand Beehama. During search, 16 Bottles of Codeine Phosphate were recovered & seized in presence of Executive Magistrate First Class. Vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized, police added.

All the accused persons have been arrested and shifted to respective police stations where they remain custody. Subsequently, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and investigations have been initiated, police said.

“We urge the common masses that if you witness drug peddling or any other crime anywhere near you, feel free to contact nearest police establishment or dial 112. People are requested to cooperate with police in curbing the menace of drugs from the society. We reassure the community members that police will act tough against the criminals as per law,” police said.
