Srinagar, Dec 13: Amidst the forecast of dry and cold qeather conditions till December 12, the night temperature continued to setlle below freezing point in the Valley.

According to the INS, Srinagar has recorded the coldest night of the season at -5.3°C while Pahalgam in South Kashmir also shivered at -5.3°C.

The MeT officials said that dry and cold weather would most likely continue till 21st December over most places of J&K with possibility of brief spell of very light snow at isolated extreme higher reaches of north & north eastern parts of Kashmir during the night of December 16.

From December 21, the 40-day harshest winter period, known as Chilai-kalan will commence, which culminates on January 29 every year. Chillai-Kalan is followed by 20-day long Chillai Khurd.

According to MeT officials, Qazigund recorded a minimum temperature of -3.2°C while Gulmarg, a famous ski-resort, has recorded a low of -5.5°C.

Kupwara in north Kashmir recorded a low of -3.7°C.
