Militancy dying ‘slow death’ in J&K: DGP

Srinagar, Jun 17 : Director General of Police, J&K, Dilbag Singh on Saturday the security situation was getting better and better with militancy “dying a slow death” in Jammu and Kashmir.
“Anti national elements are hatching conspiracies to disrupt the peace. Our resolve to thwart each conspiracy with strong hands will continue,” he said.
He said that education and businesses are not suffering due to “law & order” problems which is good for the people. He said that some “bad elements who are mentally sick” are targeting innocents to disrupt the peaceful environment and hoped that their “mental sickness gets cured soon”. He thanked the people, especially youth who have “fully supported and cooperated for the peace” of J&K.
He said that some attempts from across the LoC are being made continuously to push in militants just to keep the militancy alive that is “dying a slow death”.
“Security forces have foiled the majority of infiltration bids this year and the anti infiltration grid at the border is strong enough to thwart all such attempts which are being made from Pakistan.” To a question about arrangements for the upcoming Yatra, the DGP said that all the security arrangements are being made to ensure smooth and peaceful pilgrimage. “We will ensure every pilgrim goes back with great memories,” he added.
He said that youth of Jammu and Kashmir is rejecting the militancy and have chosen peace over death and destruction. Regarding narcotic and drugs, the DGP said that a social initiative within the society is most needed and he appealed to the people to come forward and help in uprooting the evil from our society.
He was speaking to media after declaring open a 3-day Water Sports festival ‘Jashan-e-Dal 2023’ at a function held at SKICC Back Lawn, this afternoon. The event is being organized by Jammu and Kashmir Police under its Civic Action Programme.
Declaring open the festival, the Director General of Police, J&K, said that the word celebration comes to fore itself when we speak of the Dal Lake and what could be better than to celebrate water sports activities Jashn-e-dal in the Dal Lake which is being organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Police along with other associations & clubs since very long. He said that after the successful conduct of the G20 summit, the Dal Lake is looking more attractive and I am very happy that the Jashn-e-dal festival has been organised after a gap of one year, he added. He hoped that the number of Dal lovers would get bigger and bigger each passing day.
The DGP said that the Dal lake has not only attracted its lovers from all around the world with its beauty and charm but it has helped & supported a number of our youth to hone their water sports talent which they successfully exhibited in different competitions at national and international level. He congratulated all the players who have excelled in different water sports games at different levels and also lauded the role of the Water Sports Association, he added that Jammu and Kashmir Police has worked as the backbone for providing support and assistance to the water sports association and assured that JKP will continue its support by providing different platforms.
The DGP said that Dal Lake has witnessed and tolerated many turbulent times during the last more than 30 years and it is time to pay back all the happy moments and celebrate the prevailing peace with it. He urged the media fraternity to spread the message of the beauty of Dal Lake to the world. The DGP congratulated the ADGP Armed and his team for organizing the event as the first event of the current calendar year. He also congratulated the Water Sports Association for its role in conducting the event. He added that J&K Police thinks it an utmost social responsibility to provide platforms & opportunities to our youth and get them involved in healthy and positive activities alongside performing its organizational responsibilities. He informed that number of sports events are in the pipeline.
The DGP appreciated & complimented the role of each and every officer/officials of Police, Security Forces who have played their role in maintaining peace & order here. He said that it’s heartening to know that destination weddings are being organised here adding that it gives comfort that Jammu and Kashmir is coming back to its glory. He said that tourism and activities related to it are flourishing here which would definitely help people in showcasing their hospitality to the world.
Earlier, ADGP Armed J&K Shri SJM Geelani welcomed the Chief Guest, Civil and Police Officers, participants, school children and media and thanked them for making the inaugural function a success. Giving details of the events being conducted by the J&K Armed Police, the ADGP said that Jashn-e-dal is the first event of the current year. He said that the Jashn-e-dal event has played an important role in promoting water sports. He said that last year over 12000 sports persons and athletes participated in major four events organised by J&K Police and hoped that the number would increase this year. He said that during the 3 day event of Jashn-e-dal over 600 water sports athletes will participate in 20 different events
