Srinagar, Oct 17: Police along with army on Monday said to have arrested one person from his home in Kupwara district of north Kashmir and recovered a pistol along with ammunition and two grenades on his disclosure.

“Acting on a specific information, a police team along with local Army unit carried out search of the house of one Mohammad Shafi Sheikh at Hajitra Karnah,” police said in a statement. On questioning, the police said, Shafi revealed that he has concealed some arms and ammunition in a Sewing machine in his house. Subsequently, police said, one Pistol, its two magazines, 11 rounds and two live grenades were recovered. “Shafi was taken into custody,” it said.

A case under relevant provisions of law has been registered against him and investigations taken up, it said. “It’s pertinent to mention that Shafi is already facing trial in a similar case chargesheeted against him in the year 2021. More arrests are expected in the case.”
