Srinagar, Sept 4: Parts of Jammu division received more rain even as the weather department here on Sunday forecast possibility of “scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate” showers and thunder over Jammu and Kashmir in next 24 hours.  

A meteorological department official here said that “fairly widespread” light to moderate rain was expected on September 5.

In the last 24 hours till 0830 hours, he said, Jammu received rainfall of 95.7mm, Katra 14.0mm, Kathua 42.0mm. He said dry weather prevailed in Kashmir Valley even as Kokernag had 0.8mm of rain during the time.

Regarding minimum temperature, a meteorological department official here told GNS that Srinagar recorded a low of 18.4°C against 18.2°C on the previous night. The temperature was 3.4°C above normal for the summer capital during this time of the year, he said.

Qazigund recorded a low of 17.4°C against 15.0°C on the previous night. However, the temperature was 4.2°C above normal there, he said.

In Pahalgam, the mercury settled at 13.3°C against 12.0°C on the previous night and it was 2.8°C above normal for the south Kashmir resort.

Kokernag recorded a low of 15.9°C against 15.3°C the previous night and it was 2.5°C above normal for the place, he said.

World famous Gulmarg resort recorded a low of 10.2°C against 10.0°C on the previous night. It was 0.2°C above normal for the north Kashmir place, he said.

In Kupwara town, the mercury settled at 15.6°C, same as on the previous night, the official said. It was 2.1°C above normal for the north Kashmir place, he said.

Jammu recorded a low of 21.4°C against 23.5°C on the previous night. It was 2.5°C below normal for J&K’s winter capital, he said. Banihal recorded a low of 19.0°C, Batote 17.6°C, Katra 20.7°C and Bhadarwah 17.8°C.
