Light to moderate rain forecast today, mainly dry weather next week

Srinagar, Aug 28: Amid forecast for widespread light to moderate rain and thunder in next 24 hours and largely dry weather thereafter next week, Jammu and Kashmir’s most parts recorded a drop in minimum temperature on Sunday.

A meteorological department official here said that no major weather activity was expected over the entire region till 3rd September although light rain over isolated places can’t be ruled out.

In the last 24 hours till 0830 a.m. today, the official said Srinagar received traces of rain, Kupwara 2.1mm Gulmarg 1.3mm and Katra 10.4mm.

Regarding minimum temperature, the official said that Srinagar recorded a low of 16.4°C against 17.6°C on the previous night. The temperature was normal for the summer capital during this part of the year, he said.

Qazigund recorded a low of 15.4°C against 17.2°C on the previous night. However, the temperature was 0.9°C above normal there, he said.

In Pahalgam, the mercury settled at 11.5°C against 11.2°C on the previous night and it was normal for the south Kashmir resort.

Kokernag recorded a low of 14.6°C against 16.4°C the previous night and it was 0.3°C above normal for the place, he said.

World famous Gulmarg resort recorded a low of 9.0°C, the same as on the previous night. It was 2.0°C below normal for the north Kashmir place.

Kupwara town saw a low of 16.7°C against 15.2°C on previous night and it is 1.7°C above normal for the place during this time of the season, the official said.

Jammu recorded a low of 25.3°C against 25.8°C on the previous night. It was 1.2°C above normal for J&K’s winter capital, he said. Banihal recorded a low of 16.5°C, Batote 17.9°C, Katra 23.0°C and Bhadarwah 19.1°C.
