Srinagar: Department of public health community dentistry, Government dental college and hospital Srinagar today concluded successful 5 day oral health screening awareness and treatment camp in Gurez area of district Bandipora.

A team of 12 doctors from government Dental College and hospital Srinagar started the 5 day oral health screening awareness and treatment camp in Gurez from 18 of July . This camp was part of the ongoing Dental outreach program under department of public health community dentistry department. In this program dental screening and treatment camps were conducted in various areas of gurez sector like Dawar, wanpora in Gurez tehsil, kashpat, purana thali, jurniyal, zadgai in Tulail area, Baktor, ismarg, dangan, Refuge area in Baktur region and Khar maidan and Dai Nalla.

 

More than 26 schools were visited within these days wherein large number of school children were screened for dental conditions. Approximately above 1700 school

Children and adults were benefitted in these camps by receiving different type of dental treatments like dental fillings, scaling procedures, placement of pit and fissure sealents and removal of decayed teeth which were done on spot in the school premises. The team was carrying potable dental clinic units and instruments and were equiped with filling materials for on spot restorative treatments required in the school children. These equipment were carried in 2 departmental vehicles of concerned College/hospital.

Medicene was also dispensed free of cost to the children and adults in these camps wherever required. The beneficiaries received many supplementary Medicene in form of calcium and vitamin D3 in adjunct to the pain relieving medication which were dispensed to relive the patients in dental pain. Antibiotic cover were also provided to the children after treatment. Approximately 6000 tablets of such medicene was dispensed during the outreach programme which ran through 5 days. Pre school children were also educated during the program and toothpastes were distributed within them, encouraging them to brush and take care of the teeth and making them aware about the importance of teeth.

 

Moreover health education was imparted to the masses about the dental health diseases and their prevention. The program was beneficial to the growing population of the area who received comprehensive dental care and was helpful to general public with their participation.

 

The team which was headed by Dr Aasim Farooq Shah HOD department of public health community dentistry. Other doctors who were present included Dr Irfan Ali, Dr Nawaz Mubashir, Dr Farooq wani, Dr Saleem Jaffer, Dr safeer Malik, Dr Tariq ahmed lone, Dr Younis bashir, Dr shah Umar, Dr Ather Rasool, Dr Yawer Rashid and Dr Asghir ali .Dr Aasim Farooq Shah said that he is thankful to the DC Bandipora, CMO, CEO Bandipora, zeo Gurez sector, teachers at concerned schools, and the local population who were very helpful during this outreach program. He also thanked Principal/Dean Government Dental College Srinagar Professor Dr Riyaz Farooq for full his support by providing all necessary equipment and materials required during this outreach program which inspired the team. He also pointed out that Such programs will be helpful to the health sector by decreasing the burden of oral diseases through early detection and control of the dental problems.

Insisting that dental programmes shall be started for school children which shall provide comprehensive dental care within such populations which otherwise receive very scanty health care services as they live in remote areas having difficulties in connectivity to the main valley and they also face harsh climatic conditions.

 

He informed that Similar camps are scheduled to be held in many places in Kashmir division within this calender year as a part of the outreach programme.
