Aghanistan: More than 250 killed as earthquake hits region in middle of night

Kabul: More than 250 people were killed in Afghanistan after an earthquake hit the region on Wednesday.

The severely hit regions include Paktika and Khost provinces, said local Afghan officials.

The epicenter was 44km from Khost city, and it measured 6.1 on the richter scale, said USGS.

According to Paktika’s head of information and culture, the earthquake happened in the middle of the night, and many of those killed were residents of Gyan district.

Khost officials have reported 25 deaths so far.
