Anantnag: An Army soldier was killed in an encounter with militants in Kokernag area of Anantnag district on Saturday.

According to reports, a solider got critically injured in initial firing with militants, succumbed to his injuries on way to hospital.

They identified him as Nasheen. However the encounter is going on when the last reports came in.

Earlier, Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the Watnar Village area of Anantnag in south Kashmir following inputs about the presence of militants there.

They said the search operation turned into an encounter after the militants fired upon the forces, who retaliated.

The exchange of fire is going on and further details are awaited.
