Budgam: Director Youth Services and Sports J&K on Thursday inaugurated inter district UT level competitions in chess at Sports Stadium here.

While interacting with the participating students he advised them to prove their metal in the game and sport of their choice. He also highlighted the importance of sports for all-round development of a person and said that the indoor games like chess help players in developing strong memory skills. “That habit of mind careful contemplation and planning is one of the cognitive health benefits of playing chess” he added.

He further stated that sports bring people together and help in developing problem-solving skills.

Pertinently the competitions in chess are being organised for U/17 and U/19 years age group Boys.

About 150 students selected from different districts of the UT are taking part in the game and 23 officials have been deputed to conduct the event successfully.

Prominent among others who were present on the opening ceremony of the tourney include District Youth Services and Sports Officer Budgam Masarat Jan and Mohammad Yousf.
