Jammu & Kashmir braces up for widespread rain, snowfall

Srinagar, Oct 22: The Jammu and Kashmir is all set to receive fresh spell of rains and snowfall for at least three days.
“Currently, weather is partly cloudy in most places. There is possibility of light rain/snow over higher reaches most likely in the late evening/night today,” an official of the local meteorological department said.
On October 23, he said, there will widespread moderate rain in the plains and snow over higher reaches. “Some places on higher reaches especially over Pirpanjal, hilly areas of South Kashmir may receive heavy snowfall,” he said, adding, “On October 24, light to moderate rain is expected at many places.”
Due to the weather system, the MeT has already issued an advisory, saying there could be disruption to both air and highway traffic besides drop in day temperature.
On Monday, the official said there will be generally cloudy sky and light rain may occur at isolated places. On October 26, he said, weather will be partly cloudy.
“The present system is most likely to cause heavy rain/ snow over South Kashmir, Pirpanjal, Poonch-Rajouri, Reasi, Banihal- Batote axis, although rain will occur at other districts of J&K as well.”
For subsequent one week, the official said that there will be “mainly dry weather”.
Meanwhile, Srinagar recorded minimum temperature of 7.6°C against 7.2°C on previous night, the official here said.
Qazigund, the gateway town of Kashmir, recorded a low of 5.8°C against previous night’s 6.4°C, the official said.
Pahalgam, the famous resort in south Kashmir, recorded a low of 3.2°C against 2.6°C on previous night, he said.
Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, recorded a minimum of 6.6°C against 6.7°C on previous night, the official said.
Kupwara town of the north Kashmir recorded a low 5.4°C against 4.5°C on the previous night, the official said.
Gulmarg, the world famous skiing resort in north Kashmir, recorded a minimum of 3.8°C against previous night’s 3.0°C, the official said.
