Srinagar, Sep 23: A militant was killed in an encounter with police, CRPF and army in Kashew Chitragam area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Thursday.

Official sources said that in intial exchange of gunfire, a militant has been killed. However identity of the slain militant is yet to be ascertained, they said. Some reports suggest  that the slain was newly recruited youth Ananayat.

The gunfight had ensued after a joint team of Police, Army and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in Kashew Chitragam.

As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off a gunfight, they said.
