Rajouri: An Army officer has been killed in the gunfight in Thanamandi area of Rajouri district in Jammu on Thursday.

According to officials the Army commander, a Junior Commanding Officer, had sustained injuries in the fierce firefight.

“He was evacuated to medical facility but succumbed to injuries,” an official said.

The deceased JCO belonged to Rashtriya Rifles.

Police officials said that during cordon and search operation in the area contact was established with militants that lead to the encounter.

“We believe one militant is injured as well,” a police officer said, adding that the operation in the area is still going on.
