30-Kg IED recovered in Srinagar outskirts: Army

Srinagar, July 20 : A 30-Kg Improvised Explosive Device was recovered by security forces at Tangpura Bandh in Central Kashmir’s Srinagar district last evening, army said on Tuesday.
In a statement issued here, the Army said that a major militant attack was averted when the IED was detected by ‘Explosive Detection Dog’ at Tangpura Bandh on the outskirts of Srinagar in Central Kashmir yesterday evening.
“Based on the specific inputs, search operation was launched by Ganderbal based Rashtriya Rifles Battalion, JKP and CRPF in general area Tangpura on 19 July 2021 at around 1800 hour,” a spokesman of army said.
Search operation lead to recovery of an IED weighing proximately 30-Kg near Tangpura Bandh which is just 700 meters away from Highway, the spokesman said.
The IED was safely destroyed in-situ by Army Bomb Squad today morning, he said. “The timely recovery thwarted the nefarious design of militants and their supporters to destabilize the security situation in the valley”, the statement added.
